Data Privacy Checklist for Ministries

Theology of Data Privacy Checklist

A practical audit to ensure your ministry honors the dignity of your congregation’s data.

We wouldn’t leave the sanctuary doors unlocked at night. Why do we leave our digital doors wide open? Use this checklist to audit your church’s current AI and data practices.

1. The “Traffic Light” Audit

Green Light Data Identified: Have we listed exactly what info is public (Sermons, Website copy) and safe for AI?
Red Light Data Restricted: Is there a written rule that Counseling Notes and Member Financials never go into public AI tools?

2. Staff Training & Consent

Staff Awareness: Does every staff member know that “Free ChatGPT” uses their inputs for training?
Anonymization Protocol: Do we use placeholders (e.g., “Person A”) instead of real names in prompts?
