Bible, Wisdom, and Artificial Intelligence

Exploring how Christians can think about AI in light of Scripture.

While the Bible doesn’t mention “artificial intelligence” directly, it offers timeless principles that apply to every tool we build. Through the lenses of wisdom, justice, love of neighbor, and truth, we can navigate the digital age with discernment rather than fear.

Foundational Scriptures for Discernment

Applying God’s Word to our technological choices.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” — James 1:5
Application: When facing new tools like ChatGPT or generative AI, our first step isn’t just adoption or rejection, but asking God for the wisdom to understand how to use them well.
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” — Micah 6:8
Application: We must evaluate technology not just by “what it can do,” but whether it promotes justice and kindness for the vulnerable who might be affected by algorithms.
“‘All things are lawful for me,’ but not all things are helpful. ‘All things are lawful for me,’ but I will not be dominated by anything.” — 1 Corinthians 6:12
Application: Just because an AI tool is available (lawful) doesn’t mean it is beneficial for your ministry. We must ensure we are not “dominated” or enslaved by convenience.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable… think about these things.” — Philippians 4:8
Application: In an age of “deepfakes” and hallucinations, Christians are called to be champions of what is true and honorable. We must verify what AI creates before we amplify it.
